South East Express Network (SEEN) - June 10, 2010 Meeting Minutes

The June 2010 meeting of the South East Express Network was held at Mimi’s Café in Pearland Town Center.

There were twenty people in attendance, including twelve guests. President Olson opened the meeting by welcoming all present and inviting everyone to individually stand and introduce themselves using their business tag line if appropriate.

Gaylyn Devine introduced our speaker who is one of our members, Nan Buchanan, who spoke and shared a power point presentation of the topic “Leadership Lessons Learned from My Cats.”

A brief business meeting followed. Business items covered were the approval and acceptance of the minutes for the May 13 meeting. A motion was made by Vicky Reynolds and seconded by Myrleen Knott to accept the minutes as written. Approval by the membership followed. The minutes will be filed for our permanent records.

President Olson called attention to the Agenda and Receipt on the check-in table. Upcoming events include Woman of the Year Luncheon (June 12), HACA Membership Networking Event (June 14), SEEN meeting (July 8), HACA Quarterly Meeting (July 22), and FHPW Quarterly Meeting (July 26). Details of these events are found on the check-in table. Susan encouraged all members of SEEN to review these functions and know that they are welcome and encouraged to attend. These events help all members maximize the benefits of their SEEN membership.

There were two items of business left over from the previous month. Myrleen Knott, who had been vacationing during the May meeting, was presented with a candle in honor of having perfect attendance during the previous quarter. Also, President Olson announced that Nan Buchanan has agreed to be our ambassador to the Pearland Chamber of Commerce.

President Olson extended a special “Thank You” to all those who participated with donations to Bridge Over Troubled Water which is a non-profit organization benefiting families suffering the distress of domestic violence.

The next agenda item was the drawing for door prizes which were donated by SEEN members. The winners were Michelle Williams, Myrleen Knott, Vicky Reynolds, Gaylyn Devine, Caroline Nelson, and Shirley Lang.

President Olson thanked everyone for attending, invited our guests to become SEEN members, and encouraged everyone to return for our July meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:00 PM.

Meeting was held at the Sheraton Four Points, Houston TX on July 22, 2010. Meeting was called to order by Chair, Ellen Caldwell-Ng at 6:10 PM. Chari Caldwell-Ng introduced the current officers.

District II Vice President, Tina Gandy gave an update on National news and promoting details about the National Leadership Conference on October 28-30 in Chattanooga, TN.

Chair Caldwell-Ng asked Louise Grasse to speak; Tina Gandy and Tina Eckles gave their campaign speech on why they should be elected as DVP II.

Treasurer’s Report: Presented by Debbie Holladay were approved and filed for audit.

The October Quarterly meeting has been moved to November 3. Mary Jane Brock Chair election committee with Grace Perry, Katherine Ebel and Jo Moore volunteered to serve on committee. If you are interested in nominating please see Mary Jane Brock.

Chair Caldwell-Ng advised all attendees take advantage of the vendor table with your networking flyers and cards.

Tina Ackles announced the Central Texas Women’s Leadership Conference “Celebrate the Success!” details being held August 28 in Killeen, TX. Cost is $40. With rooms available at the Shilo Inn Suites Hotel for $85. And use code ABWA to get the special discount.

It was announced that flyers would be available soon for the Dallas Leadership Conference.

Katy Women’s Conference details were announced for September 23 with cost at $50.00
